Choaya Village - 13 October, 2007

The village of Choaya lies approximately six miles from the hill station of Murree. It is bounded at one end by the main Murree-Kohala road which gives access to Azad Kashmir, at the other end by the village Haror and on both sides by Government forest. Oral reports describe the village as having been founded sometime in the late nineteenth century, and some of the older men describe how when they were small children the area was settled by only a few families.

Two New Sections - 28 May, 2007

Two new sections have been added to the site. First one is the Weather Forecast. If you are planning a visit to Murree or just sitting in those hills and wondering if it will be rainy or sunny this week, do consult this page. A small widget that shows the present temperature in Murree can also be seen on the bottom left of every page.

Second one is the Articles section. This contains newspaper and internet clippings that talk about Murree and its surroundings.

Dewal Sharif - 7 May, 2007

A brand new article on Dewal Sharif added. I am looking for details on Upper Dewal. If you want to share, please see the Contribute page.

Kohala Photographs - 4 March, 2007

A total of 6 high resolution photographs of the area around the Kohala Bridge are added. They inlcude both of the concrete bridge and the foot bridge. Kohala can be reached when you leave Murree for Jhika Gali. After Jhika Gali when you reach Lower Topa, the road diverts to Patriata on the right side and to Kohala on the left side. This is a scenic spot giving a nice view of the stream in the valley. Eateries are available both at the bridge as well as inside the stream when the water is low. The water is a bit cold even in the summer. But if you intend to swim, your body gets used to it after a while. Swimming only during sunlight is recommended. For it helps in regaining your temperature.

New Articles - 3 March, 2007

Extensive information about the Dhond Abbasi tribe living in the Murree Hills added to the Tribes section explaining their old ancestry. Another article of much later history is added to the history section. This one is about the events and personalities that were a part of War of Independence against the British Raj in 1857.

More Photographs from the 19th Century - 1 March, 2007

A number of photographs from the 19th centure have been added. One is said to be one of the earliest images of Murree (a debatable fact). Another one is of Lawrence Asylum. Lawrence Asylum was the name initially given to the present day institution called Lawrence College, located at Ghora Gali. In addition to that a photograph of Mall road with the Holy Trinity Church in the background has also been added. The last one, added today, is a painting of the Murree Bazaar. I could not establish its year. Though OurPakistan, from where I took all these images, describes it to be from 1869, but I doubt it for the location is far less developed for that time.
